What are OHS Students Listening to?

     Everyone has their own unique taste in music and what they like to listen to accompany their daily thoughts and emotions. Olympia High School students were surveyed on some of their favorite songs and artists.


     All four of the classes were represented in a survey. When asked how many days a week they listen to music, 88% of participants said everyday. Music is prominent in Olympia’s community and important to a large majority of high school students. Spotify was the most popular streaming service at 52% and Apple Music was the runner up with 30%. Youtube and Amazon music were also popular platforms for listening.


     Students chose Hip Hop/Rap as an overwhelming favorite genre at 82% selected. A notable number of people also selected Indie Rock, R&B, Alternative Rock, and Country as their favorites. There is lots of variety when it comes to favorite artists going from Bach to Cardi B. Under the popular Hip Hop/Rap genre were favorite artists such as Drake, Playboi Carti, 21 Savage, Eminem, and Lil Wayne. Other artists include Harry Styles, Bruno Mars, Jeremy Zucker, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and AJR.


     A favorite song can mean a lot to someone, spark an emotion, and say a lot about you. A few songs found in the survey are Budapest by George Ezra, Sparks by Coldplay, Snowman by Sia, Life Goes On by BTS, Classic by MKTO, and Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede. Some favorites were chart toppers and some have been heard by little.

     Olympia High School’s music choices feature many different songs and artists with Hip Hop/Rap being the most popular. Music is an integral part of what influences student life and lots out there are listening to music everyday.
