On the night of Thursday, October 27th, each of Olympia High School’s choirs performed in their very first concert of the year. Starting promptly at 7:30, each choir came into the auditorium dressed in navy blue robes.

Once settled in, Dan Schwartz, choir conductor, gave a powerful speech about the progress of each choir. “With great power comes great responsibility” Schwartz quoted Uncle Ben, form Spider-Man, while informing the audience of the power of one’s voice.

Freshman Shruthi Lingam-Nattamai, commented on her growth as a singer under Schwartz’s leadership by saying “I feel like I’ve kind of just learned how to be more confident” throughout her time in the Cantala choir this school year. “Confidence is key” she remarked.

Freshman Gian Pama expressed her initial shock at her own abilities with her change in section during the beginning of the school year. “I was like, ‘I can’t sing this, this is too high’ but I actually could, surprisingly.” Pama trusted Schartz, which just goes to show all aspiring singers that it is best to put your trust in him.

Throughout the night, each and every choir put on an astounding performance, shocking the entirety of the crowd with their vibrant harmonies.“There’s always room to improve and I’m super excited to see what’s to come, but for tonight being our first concert, it was… incredible,” Lingam-Nattamai commented after the event. Pama agreed, going on to say that the entire experience was fun and entertaining. It’s no stretch to say the 2022-23 school year has an amazing group of choirs and a promising year ahead of them.
