Similarly to how any sport has their senior night, the theater members have their closing night. This is the last theater department’s performance/celebration of the year and is dedicated to the seniors.
Closing night offers the graduating seniors one last opportunity to perform anything they want that reflects their growth and hard work throughout their last four years. Each senior gets a solo performance and other non-senior members can be involved in a group performance with a senior, which is important to the non-senior members to collaborate with their seniors one last time.
Lola Havens, a senior member of OHS theater said that “it’s a way to celebrate all that [they] have accomplished this year and at the same time get ready for the upcoming year by establishing new game leaders and drama club officers.”
Sophomore Cyrus Pruitt adds that “it is a super special night where [they] honor the seniors and give them their cords and then new members can be inducted into the thespian society.”
There were a variety of performances ranging from songs to speeches to skits. Raymond Yepes had a beautiful performance of a solo song “Waving Through a Window” from the show “Dear Evan Hansen” as well as a duet of “Superboy and the Invisible Girl” from the show “Next to Normal” with sophomore Cosette Yanasak.
Lola Havens had a moving performance of “Vienna” by Billy Joel which was a cathartic moment for all the seniors present. As they face the uncertainties of graduating High School and pressures of adult life Lola Havens sings “Slow down, you’re doin’ fine You can’t be everything you wanna be before your time.”
Closing night was a beautiful performance for the audience present as well as a memorable way for the OHS Theatre Department to say goodbye to their seniors.
