First responders alongside JBLM Military Police respond to military helicopter crash late Monday night

Late Monday night, a US Army helicopter crashed near Rainer Road and Stedman Road Southwest around the Yelm and Olympia city border.

The helicopter was attached to the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and suffered a “aviation mishap” during a nighttime training exercise. Southwest Thurston County Fire Chief Mark King stated during a press release that both crew members were rescued from the helicopter and were sent to Madigan Army Medical Center for medical treatment. One was taken by ground and the other was transported by air. The full reason to why the helicopter went down is still unclear, but an investigation has started and more information is sure to unfold in the following days.
