River Ridge Hawks are about to score a point on the Oly basket.

On Wednesday, February 1st, OHS’ Unified basketball team played the Riverridge Hawks in a game that came down to the wire. Oly made an impressive victory with the final scoreboard reading 27-19.

Throughout the game, the Bears faced off against the Hawks with remarkable plays for each team. The match included great defensive plays on both sides and even better sportsmanship. A touching moment from the game happened when an Oly Bear lent a helping hand to an opposing player out of pure kindness.

The night included a celebratory ceremony to recognize the seniors on the team including Vienne Potter, number 5, who has played on the Unified team since her freshman year.

Total donations and money raised came out to be nearly 1,000 dollars given in support of the Unified program here at OHS. Ryan Gerrits, the announcer for the game and the S.O.P.E. teacher, commented Pack the Gym’s focus is “a fundraiser to help support the program. […] It’s an important event because we need those funds,” from the community.

The OHS students stood the entire time, showing their support with signs and cheers. Make sure to carry this support to the next game on Feb 4th, at Tumwater High School!
