After its inaugural appearance last year, OHS’ Staff vs. Student basketball game is back on. This year’s game will be held on Monday, December 18th at 7:00 pm. The event will look to bring in the last amount of donations for the culmination of the canned food drive.

“I thought it was a creative way to get donations for the canned food drive,” explains Carter Fabritius. “It felt like a big finish to the canned food drive which I don’t think we’ve usually had before so I thought it was a really cool way to get people involved and have something new. We got a whole student section of people who were able to donate and support.”

Carter described about the anticipation for the event: “It was super fun to play against my teachers,” he exclaimed. “I was able to guard my teachers I had for the past few years and to score against them was cool. I got super excited when they asked me to play.”

Though the outcome may not have gone the students’ way, the student section showed up in numbers. “It was cool to see the community get together for it, I wasn’t expecting it to be as big as it was and to get as ruckus as it was during that time,” recalled TJ French.

French continued, “It started to get a little heated out there. I was not involved with any trash talk but I certainly got to see some and hear some. Towards the end, you could tell the students were realizing shooting 80 feet from the basket every time wasn’t going to work.” Despite the turmoil, the staff were able to pull out the victory.

The students “forgot the fundamentals and the staff know the basics. We made it happen. If the staff focuses on the fundamentals, I bet those students are still going to be shooting the three and that’s going to be their downfall,” said French.

“Overall, it was a celebration of staff and students. It was also for a good cause and I think it was just a really nice, energetic community event.”

The senior lineup for this year’s game looks to get their first win, while the staff look to make it back-to-back victories.
