Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) club is a place for students of color to congregate. Students discuss current events and their encounters with racism in a safe, comfortable environment.

Taking place in room 110 every Friday at Bear time, Julie Ribeiro leads this club with care. Ribeiro knows this club will leave a positive impact on other people. The club reaches out to others and helps them share their experiences. “I felt that it was really important to kind of just take a leadership role and make sure that we can uplift student of color voices here,” Ribeiro said. Other members share this feeling.

Casper Baisa advises the club. Baisa enjoys being the club advisor because they can create a place for students to talk about their experiences with racism, especially because they didn’t have one during their time at school. “It still would’ve been great to have a space like this, even if not in my school, but somewhere in the community,” stated Baisa.

Said Soto has been attending since 2021. Soto states that he loves this club’s environment and energy, as the club is always lively and a great place to hang out with other students. “We talk about racist stuff going around in the school, we talk about that, we go into detail, and [talk] about how we’re feeling.” Students are encouraged to join.

People love coming to this club because of the great community and environment it creates for everyone. They don’t come to just talk about their experiences with racism, they also come to hang out, plan events, and meet others with similar experiences.
